As we often encounter, whether it is newly customized lithium batteries from our side or lithium batteries purchased by customers outside, there are more or less problems such as battery decay, insufficient power, and inability to charge due to improper use by customers. Once these situations occur with lithium batteries, customers will attribute all the problems to poor lithium batteries. Of course, there are also situations where some lithium batteries with poor quality, virtual capacity, imprecise processes, and extremely poor performance are indeed not used for long.

But if lithium batteries are produced and sold by legitimate merchants and manufacturers, they are strictly tested and certified before leaving the factory. This type of lithium battery is generally not a problem, but if it is used improperly by the customer, it will have an impact on the performance and lifespan of the lithium battery, and in severe cases, it may even be damaged. So, the correct use of lithium batteries is very important!

Let's take a look at how to use lithium batteries to make them safer, more durable, and have a longer lifespan? What problems will occur with newly purchased lithium batteries? What do we need to pay attention to? With these questions, I will answer them for everyone and hope to help you use lithium batteries correctly.

1. Should the newly purchased lithium battery be charged or discharged first, and how should it be charged and discharged?

First, perform a low current discharge (usually set to 1-2A), and then use a current of 1A to charge and discharge for 2-3 cycles to activate the battery.

2. The new battery is just starting to be used, and the voltage is unbalanced. After charging and discharging several times, it returns to normal. What is the reason?

Although there is no problem with individual cell pairing in the battery pack, there may still be individual differences in self discharge. New batteries usually take more than 3 months from the factory to the customer's hands, during which individual cells may exhibit different voltages due to different self discharges, resulting in a larger voltage difference (i.e. imbalance) in the battery pack.

3. In what environment are lithium batteries stored?

Storage in a cool and dry environment, room temperature 15-35 ℃, ambient humidity 65%

4. How long can lithium-ion batteries be used, how many cycles can they be used normally, and what factors are related to battery life?

Aircraft model lithium batteries can generally be used about 100 times.

The main factors affecting battery life:

(1) Temperature: The battery cannot be used or stored in an overheated environment (35 ℃);

(2) Charging and discharging: The charging and discharging of the battery pack cannot be excessive, and the voltage of a single battery cell must be ensured to be between 4.2-3.0V. The rebound voltage during high current operation should be ensured to be above 3.4V;

(3) Power: Choose a model with appropriate power to avoid forced use of the battery pack under overload.

5. Do new lithium batteries need to be activated? What will be the impact of not activating them?

A new lithium battery needs to be activated. The new battery usually takes more than 3 months from the factory to the customer's hands, and it will be in a dormant state. It is not suitable to immediately perform high-intensity discharge, otherwise it will affect the efficiency and lifespan of the battery.

6. What is the reason why the new battery cannot be charged?

Zero battery cell, high internal resistance of battery, incorrect charger mode.
